Was here for a Chinook RV rally. Excellent facility and staff. This campground is very pet friendly, has a nice pet off-leash area. Was too cold to try a canoe or kayak in the river but it looks like it would be great fun. White-water rafting opportunities are very close by. Lots of little water falls: great scenery. The RV sites are nicely spaced but there's no privacy in between them. This isn't a negative against the campground though: the facilities and Wi-Fi are excellent. A very good choice when staying in the Murphy/Marble area of NC.

Only here for one night. Facilities were very clean. Grounds were nicely maintained. Seemed to be quite a few seasonal sites but all were well tended. Will return for a longer stay to enjoy the NC Zoo. Asheboro seems to be a centrally located city. Pottery in Seagrove nearby. Tried to use the Wi-Fi and connection was terminated: maybe needed a password although it didn't ask for one.

I agree with previous reviews. I've stayed at North Bend a few times and will continue to do so. The park is exceptional. Clean, facilities are maintained, great path system for walking and riding bikes. The sites are large and nicely spaced to offer some privacy without feeling closed in by vegetation. Lots of swimming access and the lake is clean. My rating would be a 10 if sewer hookup was available. Phone service (trac phone) was available as was over air tv reception. I didn't try satellite due to number of trees at my site (site 86) but I did see other sites set up with dish. This is a wonderful place to stay for extended as well as overnight. I will be back.

This is a typical state park. JC Cooper Facilities were clean but shower tile needs to be upgraded. The water faucet locations can pose a problem - I had to use two hoses to get connection which would have been a problem if I didn't have two hoses available. The sites are large and positioned to allow privacy between them. Staff preparing for summer season - grading sites, tree work, etc. A great park to enjoy Kerr Lake, boat ramp for camper use only, peaceful escape this time of year.

Very nice campground. Only one of two campgrounds open during Christmas/New Year's holidays. Plan early because most sites occupied. Sites are extra large with separate picnic areas. Paved sites which helped to level unit. Bathrooms cleaned daily. Deer in area. Nice playground for kids. Washer/dryer available at restroom. No internet or sewer hookups. Water and power connections were good. Great access to Lake Russell. Lake levels remain low due to drought. It's still a beautiful lake to enjoy. Good choice.

The smaller of two campgrounds was open during holiday season. Most sites were filled. Easy walk to other islands - no walk path on one bridge but traffic was limited during this time of year. It might be different during summer months. The larger campground on last island looked real nice (closed for season) with large sites. Bathrooms cleaned but could use updates. Curtains for privacy rather than doors. It is in close proximity to Columbia. A good choice.

This is a very nice park for beach camping. The sites are comfortable in size although some appeared to need creative driving to get units backed into. The park facilities were clean but the bathrooms need to be updated. They get a lot of use since there are no sewer hookups and the wear shows. Christmas week was busy but not crowded. There were limited sites near the ocean available. Plan early though if you must have an ocean spot - they go fast. Sites right off the ocean are an excellent choice. There is easy access but not direct impact from the wind which never stops blowing at the beach! Good central location with easy day trip access to Savannah, Tybee Island, GA and up to Charleston area. Car rental company in Beaufort will pick up which is great if you don't tow. Great park to enjoy.

This is a nice park, but sites can be difficult. No one over 30 ft should consider staying here. Some sites were very short. This is a nice location. Clarksville is a nice community and is just a few minutes away. There is no laundry facility at the campground so I used the laundromat there. There was boat traffic on the lake which was sometimes loud but only during the day and not unexpected. This is a popular lake for fishing and recreation. My biggest complaint is with the VA Park system in general. The pet fee is excessive ($5 per pet per night) and should be lowered. The nightly rate reflects the additional $10 per night fee I paid for my 2 dogs. This was an additional $70 fee for the 7 nights I was there. I know my dogs did not use $70 worth of electricity and water! I'll rethink staying at VA State parks in the future.

This is an average park. The sites are adequate although some of the larger rigs may find it difficult to impossible to set up. The size of the sites are not consistent so it's somewhat of a chance to get the right size. There are no laundry facilities available which is becoming common at state parks. The bathroom facilities are worn out, and I wasn't comfortable with the cleanliness of them- - I opted not to use them. I enjoyed hiking the trails, and the lake (too bad the campsites at the lake do not have electricity) is very nice. My biggest complaint is not with this specific park but with the State of Virginia. They have increased the pet fee to $5 per pet per night. For me this is an additional $10 per night. I do not have the maximum number of people allowed in my party (6) and figure my regular nightly fee is already inflated because I'm not using the resources (electricity and water) the State has estimated to base their fee. My dogs don't use extra electricity, and the water they do drink is less than the maximum number of people allowance. So why the excessive charge for pets? I can only assume the state is trying to use the pet fee to deter people from bringing their pets. These comments have also been sent to the State from me. Sadly, I'll have to rethink my visits to the VA State park system. Their fees are close to a private campground fee which would include cable and Wi-Fi.

This park is a gem. The campground is in a nicely wooded section with plenty of space between the sites. The staff did a great job keeping it clean on a busy weekend. There is a great trail around the lake - a very nice walk to enjoy the surroundings. The other areas of the park are close by and can be reached via the lake trail. This is a great place to spend a few days enjoying the campground and the rest of the park.

The campground is adequate for a short stay but not extended. The bathroom could use a fresh coat of paint to brighten it up. I didn't use the shower - didn't look clean. The sites vary in size and leveling was required. I stayed in the upper sites, lower sites were full so maybe they are in better condition. Park in general is popular for biking but I didn't see many hiking trails. Picnic areas were popular as well.

This is a top notch park. The facilities and grounds were always clean and there were a number of groups using them so staff was busy to maintain. I used the laundry facility - looked like fairly new machines and cheap prices ($1). The only complaint I would have is the push button set up in the showers. You can't regulate the temperature of the water and it was scalding hot. I'm not sure if the push button actually saves water - but it is a pain to have to have to use. There is only one hiking trail but it's a nice walk. Not enough rain to have any water at the falls. The trail needed some better marking and the staff was receptive to this comment. Speaking of staff - they were great!! The park is convenient to Mammoth Cave NP which is a must see. Hope to visit there again to see more of the park above ground - I spent 4.5 hours on a 4 mile tour of the cave and it was awesome. This is a great park to stay at if you're in the area.

Great campground to enjoy. The sites are large. There are no barriers between the sites so there is little privacy but there is plenty of space separating sites so that helps. There is a separate area for tents I didn't walk into that area so can't comment on the set up there. The lake is nearby and the water level is down quite a bit. The positive effect is there is a beach area that forms a natural trail around large portions of the lake. Lots of deer in the area and lake is a popular fishing spot. Visit the Mountain Home exhibit - lots of animals for kids to see. More hiking trails near this area as well.

This is a great stay in the Chapel Hill/Durham area. Sites are large, grounds are maintained nicely, peaceful and I woke up to the sound of cows from the nearby farm. What a treat! Most of the sites are occupied by long term or permanent residents but there are some overnite sights available. Owner is extra nice and helpful. Self contained units only - no bath house facility.

Real nice state park west of Gainesville. Easy access to the park but road in the campground was narrow. Might be difficult for a big rig to access although there were big 5th wheels and trailers. Highlight of the park is Manatee Springs. Usually open for swimming but because the manatees were visiting - saw six one day - they closed it to swimmers. Crystal clear water gives access to viewing the manatee, turtles and all kinds of fish. Amardillo in the area and the deer will walk right into the campsite. They weren't bothered by the dogs. Only saw one red bellied water snake. Nice walk out to the river on boardwalk. Popular spot for scuba diving in the sink hole located in the park. Took a short trip down to Cedar Key, about 30 miles away. Nice town on the Gulf to visit. Would stay here again.

About the only good thing was the cleanliness of the rest rooms. The sites are very close, typical of KOA, and the facilities looked run down. The owners were okay - not friendly by any means. This is not a destination park. It's right off of I-75, which is convenient, and right next to the truck stop. Trucks running their motors most of the night. It is a good park for just an overnight with the windows closed. Doubt if I will stay here again - it's worth the extra few miles of driving to find a nicer location.

Great park. Just had ALL the roads repaved. Convenient to Savannah. Big celebration weekend- St. Patrick's Day parade. Sites are large, with plenty of space between them. Lots of places to explore in the area and within the park. Bathrooms cleaned once a day - campground was full everyday so sometimes they would get messy. People sometimes complain about the bathrooms not being clean but it's important to remember it's the fellow camper that has left it a mess - not the park. My moto - leave it like you would want to find it. Great park. Will stay again if in the area.

Another great Georgia State Park. The sites were clean, large and well spaced. One section was very private with site built into a vegeation area. The other section was more open but there was tree coverage to provide shade. Nice walking areas and lots of bicycle paths. Wild life included armadillo, deer and maybe a gator in a small pond. Lots to explore in the area- Cumberland Island, Okeefeenokee wildlife management area (lots of gators there), St Simons, Jekell Islands, etc. Will stay again if in the area.

This is a wonderful county park. The campground is adequate. The sites are close together and fairly level. There was some shade available. The park offers many opportunities - a shuttle to the downtown area, climbing wall, lots of paths to walk and ride a bike, a great off leash dog park with access to the lake, kayaks and canoes. The swimming pool complex wasn't open yet but looked inviting. The park is clean, roads are well maintained. Excellent destination location. Will return.

Great location and nice sites. One section has a lot of vegetation between the sites the other section is more open. Sites are large and fairly level. Roads are recently paved. Access to the beach and dogs are allowed. Convenient location to nearby attractions. Myrtle Beach is a short drive away. Will stay here again.

Very nice park in the middle of citrus area. The orange blossom aroma was wonderful. Sites are nicely spaced but there is little vegetation and it would be very hot in summer. Nice location between two lakes and namesake lake is a short drive away. All facilities were well maintained. Took a day trip over to the east coast and Cocoa Beach area. Timing to watch the landing of the space shuttle was off by a few days. Homossasas Springs and Crystal River a short drive away - beautiful area to visit as well. Would stay here again.

This is a nice State park fairly convenient to I95 - just a few miles away. There is a small lake to enjoy and nice path to take a walk. The roads are packed sand and are narrow. Some of the campsites have low hanging branches. Big rigs might find it difficult to get through but it did appear to be do-able. Park staff and camp host friendly. Would stay again.

This is a nice small park on Lake Hartwell. The bathrooms were clean but the sites are sometimes messy. I experienced a security problem - first time at a state park - and I think it could have been avoided if the Camphost was doing his job. I had left for a day trip, leaving my water hose hooked up and a foot mat to dry out from the rain. The camphost noticed a vehicle at my site (camphost site directly across from mine)and did not question (nor call a ranger) when he saw them walking around the area. The camphost then went over to my site AND REMOVED MY SITE TAG which clearly stated I had a reservation until 12/31/07 - two more days of camping left. When I asked him why he did this he said he thought I had left and then noted that I would have to travel in my motorhome since I don't have a toad and he should not have removed the tag. I noticed one of the other Georgia State Park campsite reviews noted an incident of stealing so I guess this is something common at their parks. It's a shame that this happens. Another camper decided to help himself to the wood I had at my site - although not technically stealing I guess but it is VERY rude. I think the camphost at this particular park is not performing his duties and is taking advantage of a free place to live - something that should be evaluated by the Park system. The lower rating is also reflective of the road conditions in the section - VERY buckled in areas that were difficult to get past without knocking the fillings out of your teeth, and the fact that that there are no sewers-only dump station. On the plus side, the park does have cable hookup, which is uncommon at state parks, and having access to local weather alerts (there were tornado warnings nearby) is a BIG plus. I would stay at the park again but with less sense of security.

If you plan to be in the Asheville area then you need to consider this campground. It's convenient to I-40 and Asheville. The Baltimore Estate is about 20 minutes away. Easy access to the Blue Ridge Parkway and downtown Asheville. The grounds are nicely landscaped and extremely clean. Sites are close together but pull throughs are angled so that you feel you have privacy and space. Sites are level. Nice cabin and tent area away from the RVs. All facilities are very well kept. Great owners - great campground.

Stayed in the upper section. Sites are huge and fairly level. A number of them were seasonal rentals. Grounds are maintained. Bathrooms clean. Staff friendly. They advertise wifi for this section (1500) but I was not able to pick up signal at my site. Campground is located convenient to Shady Maple complex. Would stay here again if in area.

Great campground. Sites are spacious with easy access. Some leveling needed. Beautiful area - Whiteface Mtn towers over the campground. The grounds are clean. Did not use pool. WiFi works great. Nice trails to hike within the campground area. Would stay here again.

Nice camping area. Convenient to Green Dragon flea market, not in the middle of the Amish tourist attraction areas but not far to travel to enjoy those attractions. Didn't use pool or mini golf but both looked well maintained. Sites are spacious and mine was level. Would stay here again if in area.

The sites are small and most require leveling - some needing a great deal. I stayed in one of the patio sites and it was not worth the extra charge. The sites are narrow, there is no privacy and there is a drainage ditch located behind them. These appear to be newly developed and it would have been better to develop less sites and make them worth the charge. The pull through sites are grass and gravel. These required leveling as well. The pools are small and one was in desperate need of a good cleaning. The roads have big puddles after a rain which mixes with the exposed dirt to create muddy conditions. The owners and staff are very nice and the bathroom facilities were clean. I would consider other parks if returning to the area for comparison. I would stay here again if nothing else available.

The owners are very nice and working toward improvements but they aren't there yet. I was assigned a spot and then asked to move because an improvement was being done. The cable was very fuzzy and was corrected by staff on first site but I gave up when the same fuzziness appeared on the 2nd site. The electricity frequently cut off - especially at night. This occurred on both sites. I will have my unit checked to make sure the problem is not internal to my unit but I would have appreciated a bit more response than "oh really?". It would seem though that if the problem is within my unit it would occur during similar situations i.e. when the microwave and tv are on together or coffeepot and microwave, etc. This was not the case. Frequently there were no appliances on (late at night) and the power would go on and off. The sites are close together with no privacy between. It wasn't crowded though so this was not an issue for me but I think it would be if I was here during regular season. I think the park has potential - it's just not there yet.

What a great park. Easter weekend snow added to the experience. Stayed in the new B section. Sites are paved and fairly level. Bathroom was very clean. Drove thru the A section - sites are older and well worn. Most looked like it would be hard to find a level spot for MH but the TT seemed to fit fine. Excellent area for hiking and the swimming pool is a plus for a hot summer day. Visit the Historic area in the park and just a short trip (free ferry) to the Williamsburg side of the James River. VA parks are top notch.

This campground is undergoing development and I think it will be a great campground when it's completed. I hope they plan on a shower/bathroom facility but I didn't see any place for that. The spaces are set up for privacy but not isolation. The roads need improvement in some areas - big washout areas and I noticed a few fifth wheels that scraped when making a turn. The roads are steep in some areas. The swim beach is closed for improvements now but season is a few weeks away. The hiking trails are not marked which should be done. Overall a good park and it's only getting better.

What a great find. The sites are along Buck Creek and nicely shaded. There is no swimming pool, but there are two swimming holes in the river and frequently used. The sites are fairly level and about half of them are occupied with permanent weekenders. The grounds are well kept and the permanent sites have their own gardens. The bath houses are outdated but fairly clean. There is new tile in the two shower areas. There is little privacy in the bathrooms though - open access to showers with only plastic shower curtain - but most people relied on their bathrooms in rigs. A very quiet location - except for Buck Creek - yet convenient for travel to nearby areas - Asheville, Cherokee, Smoky Mtn NP about 2 hours south and Boone, Grandfather Mtn, Blowing Rock about 2 hours north. Great park to escape to.

What a great park. First time at an NC State run park - won't be my last. Sites are laid out well to provide privacy and they are plenty big. Quite a few are double sites - great way to camp with friends. All facilities were clean - there weren't that many campers though and I can imagine how used the bathrooms would be during the season. A great park.

Top notch park in all respects. Grounds are spotless and the bathrooms (individual units with all amenities in each one)were always clean. This is one of the nicest resorts I have been to. Nice path around the lake for walking, riding bikes. Convenient location to the Myrtle Beach area but out of the congestion and traffic. Will return again.

Virginia State Parks are top notch. The campsites at Fairy Stone are good size and the natural vegetation provides some privacy. The camp hosts were great. Bathroom facility old but always clean. Nice gift shop at Park office but no camping supplies offered. The beach area at lake was spotless, as were all the facilities. Will be back again and again.

Nice campground. Owners are great. There is only one bathroom/shower combo for each available. Might not be a problem with only 12 sites but a potential line at the bathroom door is there. Children are welcome but there are no recreational facilities on site for them. Multi use path nearby (a few blocks) for riding bicycle and enjoying river views.

Excellent facility. The entire resort was well maintained and the bathrooms were spotless. The inside road is steep but managable. Mostly big rigs while I was there (both motorhome and 5th wheel) and all were able to navigate on the road. Great location - easy travel to Smoky Mountain National Park, Fontana Lake area, etc. Owners are very nice - there to help but not invade your space. Cute cabins available for those needing extra space. I would stay again if in the area.

Excellent park. All areas well maintained. Trails offer good opportunity to hike and bike ride (really popular at park). Swimming in the lake available during season - only wildlife (ducks and geese) swimming during visit. Canoe and paddle boat rental available. Did not eat at Restaurant. Had site on the stream (B19) and it was lovely spot. Will return to this Park if in the area.
